Before 1984 Nike had absolutely no credit in the basketball world, in fact it faced jeopardy from the fast paced sportswear market in general. They basically needed a way in which to reinvent themselves in order to appeal to the market once again, which is how the business relationship with Michael Jordan first came about. Nike saw an opportunity in Jordan and as a result signed a $2.5 million deal with him for five years; Nike now stands as the most popular athletic shoe company in existence.
Since its first release back in 1985 there have continually been new designs of the Air Jordan athletic shoe released each year, even after Jordan retired from basketball. However when the first shoe was released back in 1985, things didn’t start out so smoothly and the release turned the athletic shoe industry upside down with some people praising its release while for others it caused nothing but controversy. For one this type of shoe had never been released in anything but white whereas the Air Jordans were black with bold red detail, causing them to soon be banned from the basketball league, a ban that Jordan himself broke time and time again, resulting in Nike getting fined but to Nike this was OK as people were starting to pay attention to the shoe. This attention soon became clear as many companies were starting to imitate the design in their own releases.
The designers responsible for the Air Jordans take aspects of Michael Jordans life, ideas and hobbies into account when producing the athletic shoes and as a result there are over 24 different models available. This offers an array of style, color and design for you to take advantage of; so basically with the amount of choice that is open to you, the Air Jordan makes the perfect shoe to be worn not just on the basketball court but also on a daily basis as well.
Each of the new Air Jordans that are created each push the boundaries of style and technology, an example of this can be seen within the third version of this athletic shoe that was created. This was designed by Tinker Hatfield and was the first within this product line to feature a visible air unit on the heel, similar to that of the Nike Air Max. Also within this version of the shoe, it was the first to feature the famous Jump-man logo. Out of all the sneakers that were produced within this brand it is this version that is said to be the favorite of Michael Jordan; in fact he wore this version during the 1988 Dunk Championship, which he went on to win along with many other historical events during his career. This shoe is definitely one of the most famous within the Air Jordan series.
The most recent release within this lineup comes curtsy of the Air Jordan 2009, which represents a sports shoe that uses technology known as Articulated Propulsion Technology, which is based around the carbon fiber prosthetic running technology. It is this increase in technology and the advancements that have come with it as well as Michael Jordans input that has pushed Nike to be the most popular Athletic Shoe Company in society today, a title that looks like its going to get stronger as more and more shoes are created and released.
The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. And has been so for several years. If you have watched an NFL game anytime in the last two weeks you may have noticed the pink shoes, towels, wristbands, and even gloves that are being worn by most of the football players in the National Football League. With pink being representative of the fight against breast cancer, we have and will see pink athletic gear worn during events this month. This, of course, includes basketball shoes. Every year the major shoe companies drop several models of pink-colored basketball kicks. Nike has already dropped a pair of Kobe VI’s and LeBron V “Soldier’s” in the “Think Pink” colorway. Think Pink has been the phrase used to bring awareness to the fight against breast cancer. Although they have already dropped a couple of pink basketball kicks, Nike is not done releasing these shoes yet.
The newest edition of the Nike’s “Think Pink” line is the Hyperdunk 2011. This shoe, and the previous shoes dropped in the color pink, are in honor of Kay Yow. Yow was the head coach of the women’s basketball team at North Carolina State University and battled breast cancer for two decades before passing away in 2009. Some of the proceeds of the sale of these shoes are contributed to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. This organization was set up to continue the fight against breast cancer and bring awareness to this devasting disease. Nike is not the only major athletic company that is contributing to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Adidas and Reebok also contribute significantly towards the fight against breast cancer.
The latest edition of the “Think Pink” Nike Hyperdunk has taken the new, innovative technology of Flywire and improved it. This improved Flywire now molds to the foot in a much more efficient way and actually allows the foot to move with it. The new Flywire is lighter and more comfortable. It also provides rock solid stability. All that you could possibly ask for in an upper is on the Hyperdunk 2011. The shoe that originated as the lightest basketball shoe in 2008 is now one of the most stable and supportive shoes on the market.
This won’t be the last pair of Nike shoes for basketball to drop in pink. Until there is a cure for breast cancer there are going to be pink colored athletic shoes released. Released to support a great cause.
In recent years athletic shoes have come to the forefront of fashion as well as use for sports. The term originally was coined for a style of footwear that is manufactured specifically sport physical activities such as sports. It is meant to provide comfort and proper support so you can compete at the top level. Athletic shoes are quite different from the usual dress shoes that you see on all the runways and fashion shows, but they play a much bigger role in fashion then they used to. The emergence of ever popular Nike Air Force Ones played a major role in this transition both due to their look and their effectiveness when it comes to sporting activities.
Athletic shoes are referred to by a different name in a number of different countries. In Britain they are commonly called trainers; Canadians call them runners while people in Australia call them sneaks. Either way the simple fact of the matter is that this style of shoes is simply the best for whichever sport you partake in. Originally athletic shoes only referred to sneakers that were intended for running marathons or casual jogging. More recently the term is used to review to sneakers that apply to all different sports such as basketball, football, rugby and tennis.
While there are definitely certain brands and style that relate to differing sports, Nike Air Force Ones are popularly known as being perfect for all kinds of events. Some people choose to wear them on the courts while playing street basketball, some use them to play baseball, some use them for jogging and some use them to partake in a full fledged game of tennis. Often times, people use these shoes for casual wear or as practice shoes, but with each day you can see more people using them for full activities. Their full ankle support in the high top version can be perfect to lessen the risk of rolling or even spraining an ankle. Anyone with a history of ankle problems should definitely look into these kicks as an option for use in physical activities.
In general athletic shoes are made from very flexible materials and have a rubber sole. When they first entered the market they were quite simple but the growing popularity has increased competition and spurned a number of new designs. While other styles of shoes such as casual loafers or dress shoes tend to come in one generic mould, athletic shoes are designed to support and contrast an athlete’s foot. The more the shoe can conform to the exact size and width of your foot, the more support it will provide and thus the better you will perform. While Nike Air Force Ones are not manufactured with the same intent in mind, they have a unique ability to conform very comfortably to anyone’s foot. They provide much more stability and support than other sneakers and the market yet are not designed as specifically as other athletic shoes.
